The third largest fish producer in the world, India accounts for 8 percent of global production

Parshottam Rupala, the Indian Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Industry of the Central Government, said that India ranks third among the world’s fish producing nations with an eight percent contribution to the total global fish production.

In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha yesterday, Mr Rupala said this. Since the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, the overall fish production in the country has increased. In 2021-22, the country produced over 162 lakh tonnes of fish, up from 141 lakh tonnes in 2019-20.
